Mustang GTD – Street Legal 800 Hp Starting at $300,000
“Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “This is a new approach for us. We didn’t engineer a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road. Mustang GTD takes racing technology from our Mustang GT3 race car, wraps it in a carbon fiber Mustang body and unleashes it for the street.” Continue reading

Porsche 911 EV Conversion from Sacrilege Motors
“With our Porsche 911 commissions, we’ve set very demanding performance and reliability targets,” claimed Bobby Singh, president and technical lead of Sacrilege Motors. “Fellten hits those targets completely. They build their system like an OEM would – the way it’s engineered, designed and blueprinted – allowing us to focus on the driving dynamics, and on maintaining the soul of these classic Porsche 911s.” Sacrilege declined to comment about costs when AutoInformed inquired. Better if your beach is comprised of precious stones rather than pebbles, we think. Continue reading

Old Curiosities Found During Sunbeam LSR Restoration
“It’s the first 200mph screwdriver, which couldn’t have been taken out of the oil tank because it was buried under the engine. We cleaned out the tank where the oil had solidified, using hot water and detergent, and after shaking the tank the vintage screwdriver eventually tipped out, “said National Motor Museum Senior Engineer Ian Stanfield. “After the LSR breaking run, the oil would have stuck like glue on top of the chassis, which is where we made the other discoveries.” Continue reading
First Look – Electric Porsche Vision 357 Speedster
The nod to the 356 is in passing since the all-electric Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is based on the 718 GT4 e-Performance. The electric motors and battery technology come from the Mission R and the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport. Following its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the design study will be on display at this year’s Rennsport Reunion in the USA at the end of September. AutoInformed bets the production version will be announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, now called IAA MOBILITY 2023, in Munich this September. Continue reading

Dream Cruise – Roadkill Nights Moves to Woodward Ave
“We can’t wait to bring Roadkill Nights and street-legal drag racing to the heart of downtown Pontiac,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand CEO at Stellantis. “Roadkill Nights continues to evolve each year, with the Pontiac stop serving as the second of two Roadkill Nights events in 2023. Our little horsepower circus has grown from a grassroots event to a can’t-miss event for any true muscle car enthusiast.” Continue reading

Mustang Dark Horse in Rolling Road Wind Tunnel
Overall, Mustang Dark Horse includes multiple changes and additional features, including a redesigned front bumper, a lower valence, a spoiler, and unique wheels. The front design is optimized to potentially increase air flow for engine cooling, brakes and air intake, while also reducing front lift. On the Mustang Dark Horse, the lower air spoiler and splitter are unique allowing the car to be tuned for greater downforce. The upgraded handling package on the Dark Horse provides a unique splitter, spoiler, and wheels – changes that may seem small but that make all the difference when hitting the road or track with performance in mind. Continue reading
Le Mans – Ferrari, Corvette, Victorious in Rain
As always, rain induced carnage worked its way with hapless drivers making the outcome somewhat random with roughly one-third of the race run under yellow flags with its innovative five separate safety cars deployed by class. There was a record 16-car hypercar field with competitors from Cadillac,* Ferrari, Peugeot and Porsche. These race cars are now clearly as complex, exciting and as expensive as Formula One cars. Continue reading
Annals of Marketing – Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition
“Even though Chevrolet has been racing since its inception in 1911, we’ve never done anything quite like Garage 56,” said General Motors President Mark Reuss, who in AutoInformed’s direct experience losing to him on a track, is quite an accomplished driver himself. If he can sit through interminable corporate meetings, we bet he could run Le Mans, but he isn’t driving. Continue reading

German Surfing Culture?
“To reduce drag and stabilize the board, patented attachments known as aero edges were added to the front and back of the board,” said Marcus Schmelz, Project Manager at Porsche Engineering. “We know this principle from automobiles: here, too, tear-off edges are defined, for example through the use of spoilers. They reduce air turbulence, making the car more stable and aerodynamic at high speeds.” Continue reading
