Volkswagen Deal on Bogus Gasoline Fuel Economy Ratings

AutoInformed.com

Under the proposed settlement, VWGoA has agreed to reimburse eligible customers for the fuel economy restatement.

Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) said Friday of the Labor Day weekend that it has reached an agreement with private plaintiffs to resolve outstanding claims concerning the fuel economy ratings of certain Volkswagen Group Model Year 2013-2017 gasoline vehicles sold or leased in the United States.

The settlement in Volkswagen’s view removes the uncertainty of protracted litigation and does not include any admission of liability or wrongdoing by Volkswagen. AutoInformed thinks that VW is buying off lawyers in a case that is similar to  – if not identical – the calculated fraud of Dieselgate where it was flagrantly guilty. The Environmental Protection Agency has not agreed to the deal. Continue reading

AutoInformed,com

Nico Hulkenberg is without a ride for 2020.

The Renault F1 Team finally admits that  Esteban Ocon will join Daniel Ricciardo as a works driver next year during its fifth season in F1. The Frenchman is known to Renault, having been Renault reserve driver in 2016 and also a Lotus junior program member. Ricciardo is currently 11th in the standings. Nico Hulkenberg is 14th, and since his contract is expiring, rumors are rampant about next season.

Esteban has a mixed record but an advantage in that he’s French. He made his F1 race debut mid-2016 with Manor Racing, before moving to Sahara Force India F1 Team in 2017. Aged just 19 years and 345 days, he was the youngest French driver to ever start an F1 race – a record he holds to this day. Continue reading

Stout Scarab Minivan Joins Concours of Elegance 2019

AutoInformed.com on 1936 Stout Scarab Minivan

Chrysler Airflow stablemate?

A 1936 Stout Scarab – one of nine made Stout Scarab – with a questionable claim to be the world’s first production ‘minivan’ – will be on display at Concours of Elegance in September.

The Scarab was the creation of automotive and  aviation engineer William Bushnell Stout. Inspired by ‘futurist’ architect and designer Buckminster Fuller and his tear-drop creation: the Dymaxion, Stout saw the Scarab as a production phenomenon in an age of uninspiring automotive design.
