BMW Takes Majority Share in Chinese JV Brilliance Automotive
BMW Group now holds 75% of the shares in BBA, while its Chinese partner, Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd., indirectly holds the remaining 25%. Last year, a total of 846,237 BMW Group vehicles were delivered to customers in the Chinese market (+8.9% compared to 2020). In 2021, BBA produced more than 700,000 BMW vehicles, with around 23,000 employees. Continue reading

Corvette Racing at Daytona – Same or Different?
Corvette Racing returns to the Daytona after a 1-2 finish in 2021 for the mid-engine Corvette C8.R as part of the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category, which ended at the end of the 2021 season. The new GTD-PRO Corvette C8.R will look similar to the GTLM. A revised wing profile will mean a slightly different level of down-force at the rear of the Corvette. The C8.R will run on customer Michelin tires, under GTD regulations. Continue reading
Kia America – EV6 Starts at $33,400 with Taxpayer Funding
The first dedicated Kia battery-electric vehicle comes to the US in a few weeks after a global reveal last March. EV6 goes on sale in all 50 states, but the performance GT version won’t be available until late 2022. Daytona This Weekend Starts 2022 IMSA Racing Season
The pole is significant beyond it starting position because this is the second yearpoints for qualifying count in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Last year, the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R claimed the Daytona Prototype international (DPi) championship over WTR by 11 points – the same margin it gained in qualifying points during the course of the 2021 season. Kamui Kobayashi in the No. 48 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi V.R was third in the DPi class grid with co-drivers Mike Rockenfeller, Jimmie Johnson and Jose Maria Lopez. Continue reading

Ford Motor US Sales Up in November
As usual Ford Motor should consider changing its name to Ford Truck. Ford brand SUVs achieved record November retail sales on the success of new products. Sales increased 25.6% y-o-y to a total of 66,390 vehicles. The Bronco family had its highest combined sales since launch – totaling 19,773 SUVs, which to put it in perspective is less than the output of one assembly plant on an annual basis. Sales of Lincoln’s new Nautilus increased 24.9% y-o-y. Year-to-date, sales of the new Nautilus are up 14.6%. While inventory is scant, Lincoln took in a record number of new retail vehicle orders last month, totaling 2,600. Mustang Mach-E sales increased 8.4% from October on sales of 3,088 SUVs, though as a latecomer it still trails Tesla’s Model Y by a wide margin. Continue reading
